It’s the simplest recipe: a mug of warm (not boiling) water and half a lemon. Have you heard about this? You drink this warming brew (perfect for the cold weather) first thing in the morning and you’re set for the day. Here are the benefits:
Acts as a gentle detox. Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted toxins at a faster rate by increasing the amount you pee.
Lemons are alkaline. We’ve talked about alkalinity as the key to good health here before. Basically, the body has a hard time balancing out the extra acids (from acidic foods, such as red meat and dairy), and the excess acidity will take a toll on your bodys health and appearance (especially on your skin). Alkalizing foods, like leafy greens, lemon, almonds, watermelon, celery and avacado, stabilize the bodys pH.
Good for your skin. Lemons are high in Vitamin C, which helps to decrease blemishes and wrinkle. By expelling toxins from the bloodstream and stabilizing the body’s pH levels, lemon water helps keep skin clear as well. My skin always looks and feels SO much better when I incorporate lemon water into my daily routine.
Strengthens your immune system. Vitamin C is also great for fighting colds and flus (which means I’ll be drinking this everyday this winter. I hate getting sick!)
Curbs hunger throughout the day. Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight cravings. In my experience, when I start the morning off right, its easier to make the best choices for myself throughout the rest of the day.
Aids digestion. The warm water serves to stimulate peristalsis (muscle contractions within the intestinal walls that keep things moving along). Lemons and limes are also high in minerals and vitamins and help loosen toxins in the digestive tract.
Will you incorporate this into your morning routine? Its such a easy thing to do that’s so good for you, so, why not?
